With the start of a new footy season, I think back on how fortunate I was to shoot AFL, or at least the crowds and environment, for a number of years for a very good client.
My client was responsible for the commercial advertising signage at the MCG, Etihad and SCG, and required images that showed their own clients signage being exposed and surrounded by crowds of excited footy fans. So, all of the ‘big crowd’ games.
This gig allowed me, among other things, to shoot six grand finals in five years (my poor Saints…)
Long days, there before the members enter and away after most folk have left, but it allowed me to photograph behind the scenes and capture footy fans at their best and worst, happiest and saddest. (once again, my poor Saints)
