Covid-19 lockdown – here we go again. Stage 4 hard lockdown Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was 110 days duration, 110 l-o-n-g days! My wife could see and feel a sense of woe creeping in to my spirit, time for some affirmative action.

My beautiful wife, Donna, wanted to see me once more getting behind a lens and doing something I enjoy; taking photographs. So, she created a weekly “Covid Captive Capture Challenge” to generate inspo and to get me moving.

Tool of Challenge choice, to randomly select the topic of the weekly image Challenge, was a home-made origami fortune cookie (think primary school games). Rules of the Challenge: one week to complete the Challenge, nope – you don’t get to ‘choose another number’ if you don’t like the weekly Challenge allocated. Don’t always be literal, it’ll impede your lateral thinking.

The Covid Captive Capture Challenge images, so far, I have shared below.

110 days turned into a doughnut, then double doughnuts and we’re still in doughnuts at day 31! Translation = after 31 days, Victoria has technically eradicated Covid-19. But, we’re keenly aware Covid-19 is lurking, so we live Covid Cautious (not Covid Normal).

Challenge 1 – letter ‘L’

The first thing to cross my mind, as I was also creating some music, was ‘lyrics’. Gordon Lightfoot, Beautiful, seemed appropriate.

Challenge 2 –  letter ‘S’

Again, my mind is a bit distracted by music, I thought of strings but sky also works in this case 🙂

An Epiphone Dot, for those playing at home.

Challenge 3 – Look Down

Maybe a bit cinematic?

Or, Covid-cautious?

Challenge 4 – Triple

Don’t know why but cards came to mind for the final shot. Always helps to have good hand models 😉

Challenge 5 – Look Up

An image (road infrastructure) from a walk (daily exercise) in the Melbourne CBD once we were able to wander >5kms from home, with no time limit, but with masks on.

Challenge 6 – letter ‘M’

Actually, I don’t think these letter challenges had to start with the nominated letter but it is the way I interpreted them. In this case, motion, at a pier located on Seaford foreshore.

Challenge 7 – Luxury

Put simply, on the 12th of November, the idea of driving for more than 5kms, or even 25kms seemed like luxury.

Challenge 8 – letter ‘B’

I’ll admit to almost cheating on this one, I wanted to do another Christmas stock shot and a Christmas bauble killed two turtle doves at once. This image has already sold a couple of time and also fulfilled the challenge.

Challenge 9 – Orange

Oddly enough, this has been the hardest challenge thus far. I shot a number of different ideas including Jaffas (lollies) and an orange icecream but while on a walk through the ‘hood, this caught my eye.

There will be more to come, we’re having fun! Challenge 10, “Reflection” is a work-in-progess, due end of this week.
