For what is referred to as a ‘milestone birthday’, my beautiful Wifey and I spent a week in the Northern Territory.
We flew in to Darwin, then spent a week driving around the Outback. Darwin to Kakadu – staying a couple of days in Kakadu; then Kakadu to Katherine – spending a couple of days in Katherine; then on to Litchfield for a day before driving back to Darwin for another couple of days. It was a big trip with almost 1500 kms of driving; it’s a big area. Even with all the driving, we still managed to walk about 10+kms per day.
In Kakadu we went on a Yellow Water River Cruise and saw many salt water crocodiles and plenty of bird life. In Nitmiluk National Park (formerly Katherine Gorge) a Katherine River Cruise where we saw fresh water crocs and spectacular scenery including Aboriginal artwork. Also, a very refreshing swim in a river ‘pool’ where there was nothing to nibble on you. In Litchfield National Park some very pretty waterfalls, magnetic termite mounds and another dip in some very pretty pools. Then back in Darwin, the Australian Heritage Aviation Centre.
A busy trip but we saw a lot and really enjoyed ourselves. Next time, not so much driving though! 😉
